Lángos – Hungarian Fried Bread

Ingredients:

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 ml milk (lukewarm)
  • 7 g dry yeast (or 20 g fresh yeast)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Oil for deep frying

Classic toppings:

  • 2–3 cloves garlic (crushed)
  • 100 ml sour cream
  • 150 g grated cheeseInstructions:

    Activate yeast:
    Mix yeast with lukewarm milk and sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

    Make the dough:
    In a bowl, combine flour and salt.
    Add yeast mixture and oil, then knead into a soft dough.

    Let it rise:
    Cover and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled.

    Shape:
    Divide dough into portions.
    Stretch each piece by hand into a round shape (thin center, slightly thicker edges).

    Fry:
    Heat oil in a deep pan.
    Fry each piece for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
    Drain on paper towels.
