Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 4 cups water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1–2 tbsp butter (optional, for extra flavor)
- Oil or butter (for frying)
🍳 Instructions
1. Cook the mush
- In a saucepan, bring water and salt to a boil.
- Slowly whisk in the cornmeal to avoid lumps.
- Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring often, for about 10–15 minutes until thick.
2. Set and chill
- Stir in butter (optional).
- Pour into a greased loaf pan or dish.
- Smooth the top and let it cool.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) until firm.
3. Slice
- Turn out the firm mush and cut into slices or rectangles.
4. Fry until crispy
- Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Fry slices for 3–5 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
