Ingredients
For the Cake
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
For the Cream Filling
- 2 cups milk
- ½ cup sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons butter
For the Chocolate Glaze
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Cake
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
Mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla.
Gradually add dry ingredients and milk, mixing until smooth.
Pour into a greased cake pan and bake for 25–30 minutes until golden.
Cool completely.
Step 2: Make the Pastry Cream
Heat milk until warm.
In another bowl whisk:
- Sugar
- Egg yolks
- Cornstarch
Slowly pour warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking.
Return everything to the heat and stir until thick.
Remove from heat and add:
- Vanilla
- Butter
Cover and chill.
Step 3: Assemble
Slice cake horizontally into two layers.
Spread chilled pastry cream over the bottom layer.
Place the second layer on top.
Step 4: Make Chocolate Glaze
Heat heavy cream until hot (not boiling).
Pour over chocolate chips.
Add butter and mix until smooth.
Pour glaze over the cake and let it drip naturally.
